FAQ's

Q  How will I benefit from an in-ground sprinkler system?
A  There are a few ways in which you will benefit from an in-ground sprinkler system. The length of time and the intervals at which water is being dispersed are predetermined so the system will disperse water at an even rate and more efficiently to varying sunny and shady areas thus using less water then hand-watering. And since the system is programmed to run on its own you never have to be there to assist it.

Q  Will the installation make a mess of my lawn?
A  H20 Irrigation Solutions of CT, LLC uses a new less disruptive technique with our trenchless pipe installation. Our machine simultaneously slices the sod and lays the pipe. Depending upon the condition that your lawn is in at the start of the job will help in determining how easy it will be to restore.

Q  What type of maintenance does the system require?
A  The quality of the products and the overall installation play a major role in determining the long term service of your system. H20 Irrigation Solutions of CT, LLC uses the best rated products available combined with extensive knowledge and experience of installations. Your system will require opening for the spring and closing for the winter.

Q  What products do you use?
A  H20 Irrigation Solutions of CT, LLC uses Hunter Pro Sprays and gear driven rotating lawn heads as well as Netafim drip irrigation products.

Q  What about underground wires and/or electric dog fences?
A  H20 Irrigation Solutions of CT, LLC contacts Call Before You Dig prior to starting the job to mark out all, if any, utilities on your property. We also meet with the homeowner prior to starting the job to discuss any other electrical issues that Call Before You Dig does not address, such as a dog fence.

Q  What happens when it rains?
A  H20 Irrigation Solutions of CT, LLC installs an adjustable rain sensor with every new installation. We will determine your individual needs and adjust it accordingly. When the device senses enough rain it will shut your system off and it will return to its regular schedule when rainfall ceases.

Q  How long and how often should I run my sprinkler system?
A  While every job has individual criteria, there are some general guidelines that H20 Irrigation Solutions of CT, LLC uses to determine how long and how often to run your sprinkler system. Gear driven lawn heads generally will run 15-20 minutes for 2-3 days a week in the spring and fall, and 25-45 minutes for 3-6 days a week in the summer. Spray heads will generally run 3-5 minutes for 1-2 days a week in the spring and fall, and 10-20 minutes for 2-4 days a week in the summer, depending on planting and/or lawn.

Q  What is a backflow device and why do I need one with my sprinkler system?
A  A backflow device prevents any water from the sprinkler system from getting into the drinking water supply. All municipalities require a backflow device on al irrigation systems. Each individual municipality has different requirements for installation in their areas. H20 Irrigation Solutions of CT, LLC will provide you with the appropriate backflow device and installation requirements accordingly.

Q  What does head to head coverage mean?
A  Head to head coverage refers even water distribution. Meaning your sprinkler system will be designed so that each head will hit any other head in its radius. Single water coverage may work in certain cooler conditions but in very hot weather will be the first to brown. It is recommended to install the system accurately with this head to head coverage design from the beginning as it can be harder and more expensive to add one or more heads later to address dry areas. Head to head coverage is key for a lush and beautiful lawn.

Q  What is drip irrigation and can I benefit from it?
A  Drip irrigation is a system that efficiently distributes small amounts of water directly to the root ball of plants. A network of small tubing is tied together providing water directly to multiple plants simultaneously. A drip zone will usually run for a period of 15-60 minutes and is considered to be most beneficial and water conservative for trees, shrubs and plant material that does not benefit from topical watering methods.

Q  Will water alone keep my lawn that deep green color?
A  The first step toward a healthy lush green lawn is to use an in-ground sprinkler system because even and monitored water distribution is a key component. However, fertilization and lawn maintenance play supporting roles in keeping that much desired deep green color.

Q  What is the difference between gear drive heads and spray heads?
A  Gear drive heads have a water powered motor that makes ahead rotate. Gear heads are used for large areas since they have a range of 15-35 feet. They also have an adjustable precipitation rate as well as arc. Spray heads do not have moving parts. However, they have interchangeable nozzles that come rectangular, squared and circular which change the pattern of water spray. Spray heads have a reach of 4-15 feet. Since the precipitation rates of these two heads serve different purposes they should never be on the same zone.
